Retaining walls in Brisbane's Bayside and east
We design and build concrete sleeper, timber, block, sandstone and boulder retaining walls. If your wall needs engineering or council approval, we organise that too, so you deal with one team from start to finish.
Walls built for Brisbane soil
Most Brisbane backyards suit concrete sleepers with galvanised steel posts. They're quick to install, don't rot and handle our wet summers well. For higher or curved walls we use block, and for a natural look, sandstone or boulders.
A good wall is mostly about what you can't see: the footings, the drainage behind it and the backfill. Brisbane's clay holds water after storms, and that water is what pushes walls over. Every wall we build gets proper drainage behind it, with ag pipe, free-draining gravel and filter fabric where the site needs it.
We're QBCC licensed (15476551) and both owners are qualified carpenters, so the details are done properly, from post depths to the capping on top.
The walls we build
We'll recommend a type once we've seen your slope, soil, access and budget.
Concrete sleeper
The most popular choice for Brisbane backyards. Steel posts concreted in, sleepers slotted between. Plain grey or stone-look finishes.
Timber sleeper
Lower cost up front and a warmer look. Best for lower garden walls, since timber won't last as long as concrete.
Block
Interlocking concrete blocks for higher walls, curves and tiered gardens. Good where engineering is needed.
Sandstone
Sawn or split sandstone blocks for a natural, solid look. Great for garden edges, steps and feature walls.
Boulder
Large rock walls for bigger sites and steep banks. Placed by machine, so access matters.
Wall plus fence
Most of our walls get a fence on top. We build both, so the posts and heights line up.

Retaining wall questions
If yours isn't here, give us a call.
Do I need council approval for a retaining wall in Brisbane?
Usually yes if the wall is over 1 metre high, sits within 1.5 metres of a building or another wall, or holds up extra load like a driveway, pool or shed. Those walls need RPEQ engineering and building approval. Lower walls can still be affected by easements, sewer lines and overland flow. We'll check this when we come out, and organise the drawings and approval if you need them.
How much does a retaining wall cost in Brisbane?
It depends on height, length, wall type, site access, soil and whether engineering is needed. We'll come out, have a look and give you a free written quote.
Which retaining wall type is best for my yard?
We build concrete sleeper, timber, block, sandstone and boulder walls. Concrete sleepers with steel posts suit most Brisbane backyards and outlast timber. Block suits higher or curved walls. Sandstone and boulders give a natural look and suit larger gardens. We'll suggest the best option once we've seen the slope, soil and access.
How long does a retaining wall take to build?
Most backyard walls take a few days to a couple of weeks on site, depending on length, height and access. If engineering and approval are needed, allow extra time before we start. We'll give you a realistic timeline with your quote.
