Retaining walls & landscaping across Brisbane's Bayside

Brothers Andrew and Simon Mulheran have been building retaining walls, fences and gardens around Brisbane's east since 2016. They sort the engineering and council approval, then do the digging and building themselves with their own machines.

One team from first visit to final clean-up

You don't need to find an engineer, an excavator and a landscaper separately. We look after the lot, and here's how a job usually runs.

1

Site visit & quote

We come out, look at the levels, access and drainage, talk through options, and send you a written quote. Site visits and quotes are free.

2

Engineering & approval

If your wall needs RPEQ drawings or council approval, we organise both.

3

Earthworks

We dig, level and prepare the site with our own excavators, bobcat and tippers.

4

Build & finish

Walls, fences and gardens go in, and we clean up properly before we leave.

Our equipment

Our own machines, so we start when we say we will

MachineUsed for
5 t excavatorBulk cuts, house pads, wall footings
1.7 t excavatorTight side access and backyards
BobcatLevelling, spreading and moving material
4 m³ tipperSpoil removal and deliveries on smaller sites
10 m³ tipperBulk spoil, rock and road base

No waiting on hire gear. Our machines are booked for our jobs, so start dates don't slip because a hire company ran short.

The owners are on the tools. Andrew and Simon are ticketed operators as well as qualified carpenters.

We take care of the dirt. Our tippers take away what comes out and bring in what goes back.

About Groove

Run by brothers Andrew and Simon Mulheran

Andrew and Simon started Groove Landscaping in 2016. They're both qualified carpenters and ticketed machine operators, so they can take a job from the first site cut through to the last fence paling without handing it off.

When you call, you'll speak to one of them. The person who quotes your job is the same person on site building it.

Common questions

Retaining wall questions we get asked

If yours isn't here, give us a call.

Do I need council approval for a retaining wall in Brisbane?

Usually yes if the wall is over 1 metre high, sits within 1.5 metres of a building or another wall, or holds up extra load like a driveway, pool or shed. Those walls need RPEQ engineering and building approval. Lower walls can still be affected by easements, sewer lines and overland flow. We'll check this when we come out, and organise the drawings and approval if you need them.

How much does a retaining wall cost in Brisbane?

It depends on height, length, wall type, site access, soil and whether engineering is needed. We'll come out, have a look and give you a free written quote.

Which retaining wall type is best for my yard?

We build concrete sleeper, timber, block, sandstone and boulder walls. Concrete sleepers with steel posts suit most Brisbane backyards and outlast timber. Block suits higher or curved walls. Sandstone and boulders give a natural look and suit larger gardens. We'll suggest the best option once we've seen the slope, soil and access.

Can you fit a machine into my backyard?

Usually, yes. Our 1.7 tonne excavator gets down most side paths. If it can't, we work out another way in before we start.

Do you work in my suburb?

We work across Brisbane's Bayside, the Redlands, Mount Cotton and surrounds, and Brisbane's southern and eastern suburbs, from our base in Wynnum.
